Deepening and Broadening Connections
What happens when five people who have done forty hours of facilitation training come together to deepen their understanding and view facilitation from the perspective of a group that is stuck?
In October, I took part in Co-Operacy’s Mastery of Facilitation training module, which is the second level of facilitation training after Whole Person Facilitation. I found the course greatly increased my awareness to the essential facets needed to keep a group on its purpose and in the flow.
To once again enter a group with complete commitment to its purpose was a familiar and satisfying experience, and a good renewal of everything I had already learned. The purpose we took on was facilitating authenticity in groups we facilitate.

As our group matured, I found that a high level of creativity and synergy began to blossom, as well as commitment, courage and trust in one another to show our authentic selves with all our strengths and weaknesses. Intense is a word I would use to describe the course, but an enjoyable intensity.
Mastery of Facilitation is based on the book The Essence of Facilitation by Dale Hunter, Anne Bailey and Bill Taylor. The book focuses on the skill of distinguishing, which to me means bringing awareness to a particular aspect of facilitation. “Distinctions are a way of discriminating between one thing and another” is a quote from chapter one. Through recognising and discriminating different concepts in the facilitation universe does it teach its essence.
Our next mastery course is being held in from May 6th to May 10th 2012, so if you are interested in deepening your ability to facilitate when the going gets tough read more and register at Co-Operacy’s training page.
I want to sincerely thank Anne Bailey, Aladdin Jones, Regan Mayo, Leanne Fleming and Samuel Gourvenec each for making training course so valuable to me.
